BIG SPRING - Big Spring Mayor Tommy Duncan wants to change the Big Spring Economic Development Corp to 100% "4B" and plans discussion and take possible action to remove four current EDC Board members, including its president, Justin Myers. It's all on the Tuesday Big Spring City Council Agenda.
You may recall that Big Spring voters recently agreed to allow 40% of EDC revenues to be spent on renovations to the city's water treatment and waste water treatment facilities. A simultaneous agreement had been reached between the City and EDC that no further funds would be rerouted to projects other than attraction and retention of business and industry.
This latest proposal would drain all EDC revenues away from that type of economic development, according to Board president Justin Myers, who spoke with KBYG over the weekend. He says that this is also a very sensitive time for business attraction in the Big Spring area, with several projects in development through Big Spring EDC, including some very positive things going on at the Big Spring Air Park and the redevelopment of the rail spur there.
This is obviously going to be a controversial issue for both sides and will likely draw a crowd and a long list of speakers for the Tuesday Big Spring City Council meeting. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. at the City Council Chambers.
