ODESSA - The Ector County Health Department wants parents to know just how dangerous whooping cough is for children.

Penny Farris, Immunization Program Manager for the Ector County Health Department, says that whooping cough can seem like a small issue but it can be very devastating for newborns.

She said because children under two months old cannot receive vaccines until later in their development and it's important for kids to not be around people that are coughing.

Farris says it's best to get your vaccines, even if you are an adult, to protect your kids.
