ODESSA- Yellow crime scene tape barricades the apartment building where an Odessa man was killed on Saturday night. Odessa Police Department reports that shortly before midnight, first responders found 62-year-old Charles Jennings dead inside the apartment he rented at 1423 East 4th Street.

Officials will only say he had an apparent wound to his body. However, some of the people who live right by the scene of the crime tell NewsWest 9 that one of Jennings' neighbors claimed his throat had been slashed.

Manuel Hernandez lives across the street. "I was extremely shocked this morning. I didn't realize something like that would happen around here," he tells us.

Chip McQueen lives a few houses down the street and was friendly with Jennings. McQueen spoke to him just hours before the homicide. "Saturday morning before he got killed he stopped here twice just to visit with me and ask how I was doing and that's the way he was, you know? He was a nice man and he never bothered anybody," McQueen said.

Detectives are working to piece together the details of this incident. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the investigation.
