ECTOR COUNTY - One man is in the hospital after a train collided with his vehicle on Saturday night.
According to the Ector County Sheriff's Office, the wreck happened in the area of East Highway 80 across from the area of the Great Value Inn.
Officials believe the 28-year-old Leonicio Ortiz entered from the area of Trunk and Cargo Street and went around the barriers and onto a secondary set of train tracks that run parallel to the main tracks on East Highway 80.
Ortiz was traveling westbound when he got his 2003 Chevy Silverado stuck on the track and was hit by a train traveling eastbound. The impact knocked the Silverado into another train that was parked on the side of the track.
The subject was ejected approximately 20 feet from the vehicle and Ortiz was the only occupant in the car.
Ortiz was transported to the hospital and is currently listed in fair condition.
The train did sustain some damage to the front end.
