ODESSA - If you're caught toting around a BB, pellet or air gun around Odessa at night, you'll be slapped with a misdemeanor.

On Tuesday night, the Odessa City Council unanimously approved the new ordinance.

That's after a string of vandalism all over town where windows have been shot out at local businesses with bb guns.

NewsWest 9 spoke with one Odessa chiropractor who said his windows have been shot out three times this year costing him $1,000 every time to replace.

He was forced to invest in a $5,000 security system but worries if that ordinance will be effective.

"Unless they just start pulling people over and checking their vehicles for BB guns, how effective it's going to be, that's kind of hard to tell," Chiropractor, Frank Gonzales, said.

Under the new ordinance if you're caught between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. with a BB, pellet or air gun, you'll be charged with a misdemeanor and given a $500 fine.

The new rule goes into effect in 30 days.
