HOBBS, N.M. - The Hobbs Police Department is doing whatever it can to get police candidates through the door.

The department has already offered $25,000 bonuses but it seems that's not enough.

The Hobbs News-Wun says they're now trying out an unbelievable incentive.

They're offering to pay closing costs and even down payments on homes.

The department is short by 14 officers and the lack of housing is hurting their cause further.

The hope is that the incentive will attract people outside of Hobbs to move there and work for the force.
