BIG SPRING - The Howard County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that left 4 people injured. It happened Friday night during a birthday party at a home on East 6th Street.
Deputies were told that as many as 12 shots were fired toward a group of people gathered at the home. Sheriff's officials say a White Chevy Suburban was passing very slow in front of the house and shots were being fired from the drivers window. Numerous .22 shell casings were found in the street.
The 4 people hurt were transported to Scenic Mountain Medical Center. One of the victims was a 16-year-old girl who was hit in the right shoulder. She remains at Scenic Mountain Medical Center.
The 3 adults injured are 47-year-old Daryl Washington of Lubbock, 41-year-old Mark Johnson of Lubbock, and 24-year-old Samantha Dawson of Midland. Washington suffered two wounds to the upper leg, Johnson suffered one wound to the lower right leg, and Dawson suffered one wound to the neck and two wounds to the upper leg. All three were transported to a Lubbock Hospital in unknown condition.
An hour and a half after the shooting, the Sheriff's Department stopped a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle. Based on witness accounts and evidence at the scene, the driver was arrested and charged with 4 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He's been identified as 20-year-old Houston Banks III, of Big Spring. He remains in the Howard County Detention Center pending arraignment. The weapon was not recovered.
