MIDLAND - A Midland library and West Texas A&M University have collaborated to help preserve western culture.

The Nita Stewart Haley Memorial Library and the University have come together to allow faculty and staff to research western studies.

On Thursday, a special announcement of the collaboration took place at the Haley memorial library.

West Texas A&M tells NewsWest 9, they're excited to promote western studies in the area.

"This opportunity that they've provided will really give us a rich opportunity for increasing study in this area. Really making it better known in both this area as well as Cannon and Amarillo," Dr. Jessica Mallard, Dean of Sybil B. Harrington College, said.

Western studies will benefit the University by helping in the recruitment and retention of faculty.

Once a year in Midland, Haley professors will be making a presentation to include the school on their research progress.
