Republican Candidate and former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert visited the Permian Basin on Tuesday, promoting his campaign for the U.S. Senate.
Leppert is running against a handful of other candidates for the Senate spot.
He stopped by the NewsWest 9 studios to talk about the issues most important to West Texans.
Among those issues, Leppert discussed is the key to securing the state's borders. He says the key is to hold those working the borders accountable.
"You take the people down there and you make them accountable. You tell us what tools you need. It maybe boots on the ground. It may be surveillance. It may be walls. We're going to supply those," Leppert said.
Leppert said communicating with those on the border is the best way to find out what they need.
The upcoming republican primary is just a little more than a week away.
