BIG SPRING - The Big Spring City Council had several items on their agenda on Tuesday night.

One of those was a proposed rate increase by Atmos Energy.

On Tuesday night, the City Council shot it down.

Earlier this year, Atmos asked to make an $11.6 million increase.

The city decided to negotiate that price but the city secretary said Atmos wasn't in a negotiating mood.

The City Council voted to deny the request but ultimately the Public Utilities Commission gets the final say.

They should have a decision made by July 11th.
