ODESSA - An Odessa teenager accused of murdering another teen during a robbery will not go to trial.

18-year-old Trevor Atchison has been deemed incompetent to stand trial.

Atchison had a hearing scheduled for Wednesday but after a doctor evaluated the teen, the doctor determined he wasn't ready to go to court.

NewsWest 9 couldn't get a further explanation of why the doctor made that ruling.

Atchison was sent to a mental hospital in North Texas where he will spend the next 120 days.

Once he completes his time, he will be re-evaluated.

Ector County District Attorney Bobby Bland tells NewsWest 9, if he still isn't competent after the 120 days, he will complete another cycle until he is competent.

Back in January, Atchison admitted to shooting Evan Fitts while trying to steal his truck.

It happened at Sherwood Park in Odessa.

Fitts was shot in the back and died at the hospital.
