MIDLAND - U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison made a special visit to West Texas with several things on her mind.

The Odessa and Midland Chamber of Commerce arranged for Hutchison to speak at the Commemorative Air Force.

County leaders, mayors and other officials came out to the reception.

Bailey touched on our growing economy and how exciting it is to see all the activity here.

She said Washington shouldn't be penalizing the oil and gas industry instead they should be encouraging them.

Even though times are looking good in the Basin, Hutchison says we shouldn't forget about the rest of the state.

"If we could use our international resources to the fullest extent, we could bring down the cost of gas and create jobs in America because even though things are booming here and I'm so glad they are, the unemployment rate at eight percent is not acceptable," Hutchison said.

Bailey says it will take an election to correct the wrong direction our country is going in.

The U.S. Senator also plans on ending her time in Washington.

She will retire from public office but says she wants a private sector career.
