Border Patrol Agents Seize Over $1 Million in Pot

HUDSPETH COUNTY - Border Patrol Agents of the Big Bend Sector have seized over 1800 pound of marijuana.

They made the seizure in four different incidents.

On Saturday, April 27, Presidio Station agents encountered a late mode pickup truck on FM 170. A search of the vehicle turned up 970 pounds of marijuana. The U.S. Citizen driver, the truck and the dope were turned over to Immigration and Customs enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents.

Over 664 pounds of marijuana was found hidden in the sleeper compartment of an 18-wheeler at the Sierra Blanca Checkpoint on I-10 in Hudspeth County April 28. The discovery was the result of a K-9 alert. A U.S. Citizen was the driver of the vehicle. Agents also seized a small amount of methamphetamine and $2,600 in cash. The seizures, the vehicle and the driver were all turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Agents at the Highway 67 Checkpoint of the Marfa Station made two different seizures of about 90 pounds each on Saturday and Monday.  In both cases, the drugs were hidden in vehicles driven by U.S. Citizen females with minor children in the vehicles. The children were turned over to Texas Child Protective Services. The women, the vehicles and the drugs were turned over to HSI and DEA.

The total street value of the drugs seized is $1,451,000.
