Texas Rangers Investigating After Officer Involved Shooting in Odessa

ODESSA - A shooting on Friday morning involved a police officer.

Around 3 a.m. Friday morning, police showed up to 36 Paradise just in time to see 26-year-old Jose Guerrero get hit by a car while helping a woman who had been attacked.

An officer got out of his car and we're told the driver, 29-year-old Randy Goltl tried to run him over.

The officer shot Goltl, who then sped away.

He was later caught on West 39th Street.

Goltl was taken to Medical Center Hospital and is expected to recover.

He's charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The woman, 24-year-old Kimberly Kendal, was taken to jail for public intoxication.

She and Guererro both declined medical treatment.

As part of standard procedure, the officer, Jorge Amezola, has been placed on  paid leave while the Texas Rangers investigate the incident.
