Police Investigating After Shooting in Hobbs

Hobbs Police Press Release:

On Monday, April 16, 2012 at approximately 8:15 pm Hobbs Police Officers responded to the intersection of South Short and East Temple in reference to a gunshot victim. Upon arrival officers located 25 year old Cristobal Carrizoza of Hobbs suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Carrizoza was transported by Hobbs EMS to Lea Regional Medical Center and later to flown to a Lubbock hospital. He is currently in stable condition. The shooter was on scene and interviewed by Detectives.

The shooting was a result of Carrizoza attempting the steal the other man's vehicle. The owner of the vehicle saw Carrizoza entering his vehicle and then a struggle ensued. The owner reached into the vehicle and retrieved a handgun. The two struggled for the handgun and the gun fired striking Carrizoza in the chest.

The owner of the vehicle will not be charged according to the District Attorneys office. Charges will possibly be filed against Carrizoza.
