MIDLAND - An Odessa man admits to setting random fires in five counties last year.

64-year-old Jimmy Doyle Farris pled guilty to arson on Monday in a Midland court.

He now faces up 20 years in federal prison.

Last summer, several wildfires broke out in Ector, Midland, Winkler and Crane County.

They were initially ruled as accidents.

But upon further investigation, turns out all these cases had one thing in common and that was Doyle.

In several of the cases, Farris was the first to call 911 and report the fires or he was just spotted hanging out in the remote locations with no reason for being there.

At one point, Farris was scorched by a fire and he was praised as a Good Samaritan for trying to put the fire out.

Farris was eventually spotted by officials setting a fire and was placed under arrest.
