ECTOR COUNTY - When an emergency strikes in the City of Odessa or Ector County, emergency crews will have a longer reach when it comes to communicating.
A new mass communication system will be launched.
It's all thanks to donations that have been pouring in from all over the city.
On Thursday, the Local Emergency Planning Committee handed over a check for $13,000 for the project.
The current system in place is limited and reaches mostly landlines.
Now when there's an emergency situation, the new high tech system will be able to send texts, voicemails and even E-Mails.
It is expected to be up and fully running by June.
