ANDREWS - Property owners in Andrews have until the end of next month to clear out mesquite or they're facing a big bill.
It's an ordinance that has been in place but never officially enforced.
It requires property owners to remove mesquite 40 feet away from any property, roadway or alley.
The ordinance has been around since the 1990's but was rarely enforced until now.
The city has sent out notices.
Owners have until April 30 to clear out that brush.
If they don't, the city will hire a contractor to do the job and will send them the bill.
The mesquite brush is often fuel for wildfires.
