MIDLAND - The probation terms for Joel Tavarez were handed down on Monday in a Midland courtroom.

Tavarez was recently convicted of driving drunk and causing a crash that killed two people back in October of 2010.

The judge decided that Tavarez will serve 10 years probation. He could've received less probation time.

Additional terms of his probation will be discussed further in a few weeks. That will include how much restitution he will have to pay.

Although Tavarez was not sentenced to prison time, as part of his probation, he will have to serve 180 days in the Midland County Detention Center.

He started serving his jail time on Monday.
