MIDLAND COUNTY - Officials are investigating after a fatal accident on Interstate 20 in Midland County.
The accident happened on Interstate 20, east of FM 1788.
The City of Midland tells NewsWest 9, four people have died in connection with the accident and three total vehicles were involved.
The owner of Lufkin Ranch and Rodeo Company, Chuck Griffith, contacted NewsWest 9 late Thursday night and DPS Troopers told him that one 18 wheeler was traveling eastbound and another 18 wheeler was traveling westbound. The eastbound 18 wheeler ran through the median and struck the westbound 18 wheeler head-on and then there was an explosion. The driver of another trailer, 50-year-old David Wisener, had no choice but to drive through the ball of flames that erupted.
Wisener was the General Manager of the Lufkin Ranch & Rodeo Company in Lufkin, Texas. Wisener was traveling to Phoenix when the accident occurred. Wisener was survived by his daughter, 25-year-old Haley Burns, his son, 18-year-old Jordan and his parent, Donald Wisener.
An exact cause of the accident has not yet been released.
Officials also tell NewsWest 9, that one bull was injured in the accident but all others were found safe and are being taken care of.
Interstate 20 was closed for several hours while emergency crews cleaned up the mess. According to TXDOT officials, Interstate 20 has been reopened to traffic.
