JEFF DAVIS COUNTY - With the threat of wildfires around the corner, officials will now have a quicker way of alerting Jeff Davis County residents.
The county is looking to go to what's called the Reverse 9-1-1 System.
If there's a major emergency, the system will call you on your landline phone or cell phone.
It can even send a message to your computer.
All you have to do is sign up for the alerts.
The opt-in system tells emergency crews who wants the alerts and who doesn't.
The system is expected to be ready in about a month.
The county decided to get it after those devastating wildfires last year.
It will help alert residents if they need to evacuate.
