Joel Tavarez Found Guilty on All Counts

MIDLAND - A Midland jury has decided the fate of a man on trial for intoxication manslaughter.

On Friday night, the jury found Joel Tavarez guilty on all counts of intoxication assault and manslaughter.

Tavarez was found guilty of driving drunk and going the wrong direction on Highway 191.

He slammed into 21-year-old Jenna Vela and her passenger, 22-year-old Perry Jeffery back in October of 2010. Both were killed in the accident.

Two toddlers in the back seat of their car survived the deadly crash.

Sentencing for Tavarez will take place on Monday morning at 9 a.m.
