ECTOR COUNTY - It was a hard loss on the Ector County Sheriff's Office when their K-9 was killed in the line of duty earlier this month.

But now, they're welcoming a new team member aboard.

"Mormal" is a German Shepard from California.

On Monday, three donations were made to help cover the cost of the new dog.

The Jasper Police Association gave $250, a citizen donated $500 and the Odessa Peace Officers Memorial pitched in $1,000.

"They consider a K-9 an officer like we do, so they wanted to help out and it was tremendous for them to do that," Ector County Sheriff, Mark Donaldson, said.

Mormal is currently being trained by Sergeant Strayhan.

He isn't on the force yet because he isn't certified in Texas.
