The main break was on 10th and Owens. Because it's one of the city's largest transmission lines, more people were affected by this break. It left people on the north and the east side of Big Spring, as well as Coahoma, without water on Wednesday morning. For students at Howard College, Big Spring and Coahoma ISD that meant they got the day off.

"This one affects a whole system. In this case, about almost half our customers," Darden said.

The 20 inch main break left 3,000 people without water. Officials say you can blame your frustrations on the cold weather for causing the break.

"Ground movement looks to be a lot of the cause of this leak, because it's not on a joint line where you typically see it. That's where the weak point would be, this split is in the middle of the two joints," Darden said.

City officials say the pipe that busted was fairly new. For those worried about the precious water lost, they estimate no more than 350,000 gallons of water were lost. For the coming weeks, the city is crossing their fingers and hoping no other major water breaks pop up. 

"Weather conditions don't look to be in our favor in the upcoming days. We may be experiencing more, hopefully not on transmission lines. Because this does affect a lot of customers when you have a transmission line," Darden said.

Water was restored to all customers on Wednesday around 5:30 p.m.
