CARLSBAD, N.M. - A Carlsbad man was arrested after stealing a woman's jewelry then firing shots at her.
27-year-old Basilio Flores is being charged with attempted murder, robbery and being in possession of a firearm.
On Monday afternoon, Carlsbad Police responded to a shooting call in the 600 block of north 5th Street.
According to reports, Flores fled the scene in a white Ford pick-up right before officers arrived.
Police eventually spotted the vehicle and performed a routine traffic stop.
Once stopped, Flores fled on foot and took police on a pursuit.
He was found hiding in a dumpster in an alley.
According to the victim who knew Flores, she said he approached her as she was walking back to her apartment from a store.
He then demanded money from her that he says she owed him.
When she didn't give it to him, Flores began removing her jewelry, causing injury to her chest.
The victim attempted to run away and that's when Flores pulled out his semi-automatic pistol and opened fire.
Luckily, he missed.
Right now, Flores is at the Eddy County Detention Center pending arraignment in court.
