Man Killed After Leading Police on High Speed Chase

One man is dead after he led police on a high speed chase through Midland and Andrews County on Sunday afternoon. Officials tell NewsWest 9, 36-year-old Earney Lee Maker, who was driving a Chevy S-10 led police on a chase.

ANDREWS COUNTY - One man is dead after he led police on a high speed chase through Midland and Andrews County on Sunday afternoon.

Officials tell NewsWest 9, 36-year-old Earney Lee Maker, who was driving a Chevy S-10 led police on a chase.

According to scanner traffic, the chase reached speeds of up to 90 miles per hour.

Officers tried shooting out the tires of the truck as well as deploying stop sticks.

During the chase, Maker also tried to ram several police vehicles during the pursuit and that's when officials decided to open fire.

Maker was transported to Permian Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

When officials searched Maker's vehicle, they did find a weapon in the vehicle. Details regarding the exact type of weapon has not yet been released.

TXDOT officials tell NewsWest 9 that Highway 385 & Mustang Drive will be closed until at least midnight.
