Two People Arrested After Trying to Break Into Police Officer’s Home

ODESSA - Burglars in Odessa picked the wrong house.

On Saturday, Odessa Police received an assist officer call from East 51st Street.

Four people were in the home while the burglars tried to force their way into the home.

The occupants of the home were an off-duty cop, along with her boyfriend, another off duty cop and two children.

When the two officers approached the burglars, three of them retreated to their pickup, but the fourth burglar, 46-year-old Charles Mackey, came at the officer.

She informed him she was an officer and commanded him to get down.

The pickup left the scene, but not before one of the off duty officers fired a shot at the truck, hitting a back tire.

Mackey was detained until Odessa Police arrived.

Later, officers received a disturbance in the 2200 block of Glenwood.

Two people were arrested.

During the investigation of that incident, one of the two subjects that was arrested, was identified as one of the burglars.

Police arrested 28-year-old Steven Maes.

He is charged with burglary of a home.

An investigation continues to find the other two suspects involved.
