Woman Dies After Being Stabbed in Fort Stockton

FORT STOCKTON - Police are investigating after a woman died on Sunday night in Fort Stockton.

Police tell NewsWest 9, they responded to a stab victim just after 8 p.m. Sunday night at 405 West Hornbeck Street.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found 22-year-old Brittany Lanay Cartwright on the ground.

Cartwright was transported to Pecos County Memorial Hospital where she later died.

Witnesses on the scene told police that the assault happened at 403 W. Hornbeck and Cartwright ran next door for help.

The suspect, 44-year-old Saul Marquez Silvas, was still inside the residence located at 403 W. Hornbeck. Silvas was detained as a person of interest in the case and was later arrested.

Police also said that Cartwright and Silvas knew each other and were in a domestic type relationship.

Silvas is currently behind bars at the Pecos County Jail. Silvas will face criminal charges of Murder.

Details regarding bond for Silvas were not released.
