Two men from Carlsbad have been arrested for the murder of an Artesia man.

On Monday, officers found 50-year-old Timothy Wallace dead in his home.

He had been shot in the head.

28-year-old Matthew Sloan and 29-year-old Senovio Mendoza have been arrested.

The two have racked up several charges including an open count of murder, aggravated burglary, robbery and tampering with evidence.

Officials say Senovio contacted them and confessed to the murder and said Sloan and others were involved as well.

The two said they had gone to the house to buy drugs.

But before they went in, they put on masks and busted through the door with rifles claiming to be Pecos Valley Drug Task Force.

They said they struggled with Wallace over the rifle when it suddenly went off and Wallace was killed.

They both face more than 15 years in prison.
