ECTOR COUNTY - An Ector County Sheriff's Office K-9 was killed in the line of duty after a chase on Friday night.
According to the Ector County Sheriff's Office, a vehicle was being pursued by a Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit on Friday night. During the pursuit, the suspect ran several stop signs and crashed into a field south of 8th Street and west of Loop 338.
The suspect then got out of his vehicle and ran into the field. Officers then deployed the K-9 officer to chase the suspect down. The Deputy and the K-9 chased the suspect into a field.
The suspect, some how got away from the officer and the K-9 was hit by an unknown vehicle and was killed.
The name of the K-9 officer has not yet been released.
Authorities will release more information into the incident on Sunday afternoon.
