ALPINE - Thanks to a large grant from the Permian Basin Area Foundation of Midland, residents of Alpine will see big changes for Marfa Public Radio.

The $10,000 grant will be used as a part of Marfa Public Radio's new signal enhancement project which aims for an improved, localized new signal in Alpine.

The station hopes to fill signal gaps caused by the mountainous terrain between Alpine and the primary KRTS Marfa tower, outside of Fort Davis.

KRTS Marfa plans to install a new radio transmitter on a mountain in Alpine, while simultaneously broadcasting their main signal from 93.5 FM onto the additional frequency of 91.7 FM in Alpine.

The project is set to take place in early 2012.
