ODESSA- For many of you Labor Day is a day to kick back and relax. It's a holiday which honors all the hard work of our nation's laborers.
Here at home, a local group took the time to celebrate those who labor in our own community.
In honor of the holiday, many people came out to take part in the 54th annual Labor Day Celebration hosted by the Permian Basin Central Labor Union.
"The reason why we do this is to honor all those employees who work for the union companies in the Permian Basin," Permian Basin Central Labor Union President, Dally Willis, said.
There are over 37 unions represented in the Permian Basin. Many of those union workers came out to celebrate, what they and those before them, have worked so hard to achieved.
"It's to allow the workers to let the public know what they do on their job daily and have that contribute to the community and because we do have unions that help to contribute to the middle class," Willis said.
There were also several speakers at the celebration. One of those from the State Department of Human Relations who spoke on how important it was to keep workers rights strong.
All the speakers reminded people what the holiday is really about.
"The thing is that I hope that everyone is celebrating this today to think about it for the work that you had done for this country, and those who have fought for this thing that we have now. Now we have to thank those workers who took the stress for us if it was not for them, we would not even have a working day," Ector County Commissioner for Precinct 4, Armando Rodriguez, said.
