Motorcyclist Injured in Accident Could Lose His Leg

MIDLAND - A motorcyclist hurt in a suspected drunk driving accident could lose his leg.

Midland Police arrested 24-year-old Nathaniel Paul.

He's being held on a third degree felony charge of intoxication assault with a vehicle causing seriously bodily injury.

The victim, Roy Bermea, remains in stable condition at medical center hospital.

Police say Bermea was hit early Sunday morning on west Interstate 20.

When officers arrived they found Bermea lying on the ground near his motorcycle.

They found Paul sitting in the driver's seat of his car and noticed damage on the right side of his car.

Paul failed a field sobriety test.

He was also given a blood test after initially refusing.

According to the affidavit, doctors say the victim will probably lose his leg.

If convicted on the third degree felony charge, Paul faces 10 years behind bars.
