NEAR CARLSBAD, N.M. - Fire crews near Carlsbad continue to battle flames from three separate fires. All three fires are said to have been started by lightning in the area.
The Acrey Fire has scorched about 15,000 acres and an endangered species habitat is being threatened there along with a natural gas field.
Luckily the fire received some rain which helped the crews out.
The lookout fire is located seven miles southwest of Queen and burned about 3,000 acres.
Burnout operations are underway.
Fire crews also responded to the 21 acre Segrest Fire which is located about 10 miles west of the Acrey fire.
At last check, the fires are 50 percent contained.
