MONAHANS - A new, state of the art greenhouse promises to put Monahans on the world map.
City officials and the Chamber of Commerce joined Canadian based, Village Farms International, for a ground breaking ceremony on Wednesday morning.
The 120 acre facility will house the highest technology to enable them to grow, harvest and ship produce from Ward County and all over the country.
"We produce about 90% of all the tomatoes grown in the state today. From these facilities, we'll be able to expand, not only Texas, but the U.S. as we ship all over the United States," Mike Digiglio, President and CEO of Village Farms, said.
Besides a boost to the economy, it will bring hundreds of jobs to the area.
Infrastructure work is already underway.
Actual construction will begin in mid-August with a phase one completion date around the holidays.
