WEST ODESSA - After five years, an Odessa Church is finally picking up the pieces after a fire ripped through the property.

For the folks at the Highway Temple Assembly of God out in West Odessa, they're finally getting some closure after a devastating fire.

Members of the Church came out Saturday afternoon to clean up the mess left behind from a fire that destroyed the fellowship hall and the home of their pastor.

Five years ago, a car explosion ignited a fire that spread to the hall and some housing buildings on the property.

It was a total loss but they've just now been allowed to clean up after a lengthy investigation

Pastor Betty Yoakham tells NewsWest 9, they've had to wait for a law firm to finish getting pictures and estimates of the damages.

The total cost of damages from that fire is $2 million.

Pastor Yoakham says she's humbled by all the people willing to donate their time and money to get the church back on its feet.

Yoakham says they'll be out every weekend cleaning up the damage until it's all picked up.
