PECOS - Pecos Mayor Venetta Seals told NewsWest 9 that after nearly three hours of deliberation on Wednesday night, the Pecos City Council unanimously appointed Jim Aguilera as the new Pecos City Manager.

Seals told NewsWest 9 that Aguilera has six years of city manager experience, serving as the City Manager of the towns of Sunland Park and Truth or Consequences in New Mexico before coming to Pecos.

The City Council also made the decision to hire an Assistant City Manager and selected Frederico Reyes from Del Rio, Texas.

The selection comes after Former Pecos City Manager Joseph Torres was found dead in his home from a gunshot wound at the end of March, the day after he was indicted for Indecency With a Child.

Pecos Police Chief Clay McKinney has served as Interim City Manager since then.

McKinney will serve as Pecos city manager for the next two weeks. After that, Aguilera will take office.

Reyes will take office on August 1st.
