Help may be on the way for fire ravaged west Texas counties like Jeff Davis County.

President Barack Obama has declared a major disaster for parts of Texas hit with severe wildfires in April and May.

That clears the way for federal aid to help state and local recovery efforts in 45 counties.

The president had previously denied Texas' disaster requests, sparking a fight with Governor Rick Perry.

Texas is enduring one of its worst wildfire seasons in history because of high temperatures, drought and strong winds.
