SWEETWATER - NewsWest 9 is learning more about the case of a four-year-old abandoned on I-20 Tuesday morning.

Angel's father, Carlos Rico, told police he had a "divine intervention" while he was driving with his son from Lubbock to Saginaw on Tuesday.

He says God told him to kill his son, and leave him.

Sweetwater Police have confirmed that the young had been choked.

He was spotted walking down the center of I-20 by Sweetwater High Basketball Coach Al Hunt.

Angel has been released from the hospital and is in the custody of Child Protective Services. Authorities say the boy should be released to his stepmother soon.

Police are looking into upgrading his father's charge of child endangerment to capital murder.

With that charge, Rico could possibly spend the rest of his life in prison.
