HOWARD COUNTY - "It just gives you goose bumps." That's how Battalion Chief Billy Waid describes the outpouring of support from the Big Spring community.

"The way everyone came out there and came together to bring us all different kinds of food, it was very impressive," he said.

A community was ravaged by the Boykin Road Fire, which burned more than 15,000 acres and destroyed two homes.

Walking through the remains of the homes renders a devastating feeling. Pretty much all that is left are a few decorations, empty jewelry boxes and some pots and pans.

"It's always devastating when people lose their homes," Waid said. "It's all of their personal belongings."

But as devastating as it is, Waid said it could have been a lot worse.

"There were 300 homes that were threatened, but only two burned," he said.

A fact that served as a diamond in the rubble.
