Eunice Police Sergeant Cleared on Animal Cruelty Charges

EUNICE, N.M. - A Eunice Police Sergeant has been cleared of animal cruelty charges.

Eunice Mayor Matt White tells NewsWest 9, charges against Sergeant Chuck Dudley have been dismissed.

Reports were made that a couple of turkeys were harassing people in town.

Dudley and an animal control officer tried to get catch the turkeys to get them out of town twice with no success.

On their third time, they caught them and then took them out of the city.

According to the Mayor, Dudley and the animal control officer followed city ordinance and shot the turkeys outside of the city limits.

Dudley is one of the officers applying for the Chief of Police position in Eunice.
