Arizona Fire Will Not Threaten Permian Basin’s Power

Staff Report

We've been swamped with calls to our newsroom after a report a fire in Arizona could affect power in New Mexico and Texas.

The "Wallow Fire" has burned close to 400,000 acres in Arizona and continues to grow.

It's coming dangerously close to some power lines that provide electricity to parts of New Mexico and Texas.

Many West Texans called us worried.

NewsWest 9 has learned that El Paso's provider--El Paso Electric--- has been threatened.

However, the Permian Basin is not connected to that provider.

If the fire makes it to their transmission lines, West Texas will not be affected
