NewsWest 9 has confirmed that high speed chase along Interstate 20 has ended with shots being fired.

NewsWest 9 has learned from Trooper John Barton with the Texas Department of Public Safety that DPS Trooper Max Honesto was shot in the right arm and one other suspect was shot during the traffic stop.

Honesto is an eight year veteran with the Big Spring DPS Office.

The chase started around 1:00 p.m. after a routine traffic stop near mile marker 98, which is near Penwell. A suspect inside the vehicle shot at the trooper and the trooper fired back. The suspects then took off and troopers ended the chase at Grant and Interstate 20 in Ector County.

The Trooper and the suspect were transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. Honesto and the suspect were treated and discharged from the hospital.

DPS Troopers confirmed that all three suspects, including the one who was shot, are in DPS custody being questioned by the Texas Rangers.

DPS Troopers said it could take anywhere between 24 to 48 hours to release the identities of the suspects or reveal what charges will be filed against the suspects.

A portion of Interstate 20 was closed due to the shooting but has since reopened.
