BIG SPRING - The Mayor of Big Spring is speaking out against allegations that he illegally accepted money for his 2010 campaign.

Mayor Tommy Duncan is under investigation for allegedly accepting $800 worth of donations from two Big Spring companies.

This weekend, Mayor Duncan issued a statement to NewsWest 9 saying he did not know that accepting donations from corporations was against the election code.

He says the corporations have contacted him and they didn't know it was illegal either.

Duncan goes on to say that he was the one who reported the contributions, so clearly he was not trying to keep it a secret.

He says he accepts responsibility and is willing to do whatever he has to, to correct this error.

The Texas Rangers are now investigating the case.
