BIG SPRING - Mayors across the region received a request from the Archdiocese in San Angelo to proclaim Sunday, April 17, as a day to pray for rain.

Big Spring Mayor Tommy Duncan issued his proclamation and received the city council's blessing Tuesday. Mayor Duncan has asked Big Spring's churches and all communities in the area to join in the effort this Sunday.

Locally, Howard County residents joined together to pray for rain about a month ago, and widespread thunderstorms crossed the area a few days later, bringing much needed precipitation.

Of course, much more is needed to not only help stave off deadly wildfires, but to also prepare soils for ag producers, replenish area reservoirs and recharge regional aquifers.

It's a lot to ask, but many believe that's what "faith" is all about.
