BIG SPRING - The City of Big Spring has moved one step closer to re-opening its historic Municipal Auditorium after closing it a couple of years ago due to ADA compliance issues.
The City Council Tuesday gave city administration officials the go ahead to advertise for bids for planned renovations. The city has been working with the engineering firm Parkhill Smith and Cooper on designs that will meet the ADA issues while keeping as much of the historic look of the facility.
The city has already set aside about $500,000 for the project in its budget. Once bids are awarded and work begins, it's hoped to have the auditorium opened in time for the Big Spring Symphony's performance this holiday season, according to Assistant City Manager Todd Darden.
