NEWS FEED: Grassfires Burning Across West Texas

UPDATE, 3:34 P.M.: TXDOT is closing Highway 115 in Andrews County from Highway 181 to Mustang because of a grassfire. Highway 137 in Glasscock County and southern Martin County is now open.

UPDATE, 3:13 P.M.: NewsWest 9 live Doppler shows the fire burning in northwest Andrews County. The smoke plume extends all the way to northern Howard County.

UPDATE, 3:11 P.M.: NewsWest 9 has learned the fire that was burning earlier on FM 1788 in Midland County burned approximately 50 acres. No injuries were reported and no structures were burned. Two Midland Fire units and three Northeast Fire units responded to the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

UPDATE, 1:37 P.M.: TXDOT officials have confirmed to NewsWest 9 that Highway 137, between FM 307 and Highway 158, has been closed due to a large grassfire.

UPDATE, 1:28 P.M.: NewsWest 9 has learned that a fire burned two homes in Midland in the 3900 block of Anetta. Our crew on the scene is reporting that the fire spread from one home to another.

UPDATE, 1:26 P.M.: Our photographer on the scene of the fire at FM 1788 is reporting that the fire is under control.

UPDATE, 1:23 P.M.: Crews are fighting a fire off of FM 1788 north of the Midland airport.

UPDATE, 1:20 P.M.: Crews are battling three grassfires in Andrews County. One is located 13 miles north of 176 off of 181. The second fire is burning seven miles west of Andrews off of FM 2381. The third fire is burning near 176 and 181.

UPDATE, 1:15 P.M.: Numerous grassfires are burning in the Basin. NewsWest 9 has learned that the Texas Forest Service is responding to a fire in Glasscock County off of Highway 158, west of 138. Officials have closed 137 due to the grassfire. Crews from Glasscock County, Martin County and the Texas Forest Service are on the scene.
