New Rail Line Proposed for Lea County

LEA COUNTY - A new rail line could be part of Lea County's future if Permian Basin Railways gets its wish.

The new railway would connect the area to the Burlington North Santa Fe line and put Lea County as well as Seagraves and Seminole in an economically good position.

With lines already connected to the Union Pacific Railway in Monahans from Eunice and Jal, the addition of the second line could mean a gain in manufacturing jobs.

Discussions between Permian Basin Railways and officials with the county have been on going for weeks now to gauge interest and work a plan to bring the line to the area.
