MIDLAND/ODESSA - Some folks think that the drive between Midland and Odessa needs a bit of a makeover.
From restaurants to hiking trails, the Motor Metropolitan Planning Organization tossed around their ideas for the future of the highway.
If you ever drive on Highway 191, it's a pretty straight stretch of road surrounded by open fields.
But the folks at the motor organization hope to spruce up part of that drive in the next couple of years.
On Monday, the group met to discuss their long term transportation plans for Highway 191 after community members said they'd like to see more than just highway and land.
They're partnering up with a consulting firm during a 14-month study to decide what will work best in certain sections of the highway.
They say they want to enhance the quality of life in the area especially around FM 1788 and Highway 191.
The group has ideas like biking trails and hiking areas along with more housing and restaurants.
MPO Executive Director Melba Owens said this is something the community has asked for so they really want their input in the decision making process.
"We want the community to come and help us plan the kinds of development they want to see," she said. "The people will have the ability to really talk to us about the things that are important to them."
MPO will be hosting community workshops to get that feedback in the next few months.
These future projects are being paid for by federal highway planning funds.
Owens said this is an opportunity they are really lucky to have so we'll see what they come up with in the near future.
