BIG SPRING -  A large, vacant building went up in flames in downtown Big Spring Monday night.

The fire broke out around 9:30 in a building at 2nd and Runnels.

Fire units had to close off a large part of downtown as they fought the fire, but by 10:30 had gained the upper hand on the blaze.

As of late Monday, the fire was contained and no injuries were reported. The old building, which was built with lots of timber, caused lots of smoke as it burned, filling the downtown area.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
